Readers of this blog should take note of these facts because they impact directly on the phenomenon of GLOBAL WARMING and the dire consequences of ignoring the potential devastation that can be caused by an imbalance in greenhouse gases. Readers Digest has confirmed what I learnt in Biology class in my youth. THANK YOU.

All living things on earth are part of a food chain and the minerals contained in the separate parts, it is claimed, are recycled between the separate parts thereof.

The quote in Readers Digest is as follows:

All living things in a particular environment are part of a food chain. A typical community of organisms, such as a deciduous forrest, includes producers, consumers and decomposers.

The producers are green plants, which use light to make food from carbon dioxide and water.

The plants are then eaten by herbivarous animals (primary consumers) which are in turn eaten by carnivores (secondary consumers) Finally decomposers and scavengers break down the remains of the dead organisms and waste materials, releasing substances which enrich the soil and are used by the producers. This revelation brings me to the disruption of nature by human intervention. Prior to the era of the INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION we did not use mineral deposits such as coal and oil to generate energy. Today the use of these mineral deposits are disrupting the equilibrium that previously existed on earth. Prior to this era there was a realistic balance between the natural production of carbon dioxide and the absorption thereof by plants in the process of making food. This imbalance is the direct result of the use of fossil fuel to cope with our present energy needs. Humanity caused this imbalance and humanity must therefore rectify this situation which is causing our atmosphere to overheat. This can develop into a scenario that is too ghastly to contemplate.

Another scenario that is adding to our global warming woes is THE OVER POPULATION OF OUR EARTH. The agricultural productive capacity of earth is insufficient to cope with the present increase of consumers. The consumers are all memers of the animal genre and include human beings.

A fact that seems to escape many people is the following:

ALL ANIMALS INCLUDING HUMAN BEINGS ARE PRODUCERS OF CARBON DIOXIDE. IN THIS CONTEXT I REFER TO THE PRODUCTION OF CARBON DIOXIDE BY THE DIGESTIVE PROCESS. Digestion produces carbon dioxide gas which animals (including human beings) expel by burping and passing wind.

I APPEAL TO ALL GOVERNMENTS ON EARTH TO ACTIVELY JOIN THE MOVEMENT TO RID OUR EARTH OF EXCESS GREENHOUSE GASES. OUR FUTURE DEPENDS ON OUR IMMEDIATE AND ACTIVE PARTICIPATION.
